"The Greatest Salesman in the World"

Bet that got your attention! I am a huge fan of Og Mandino and his book "The Greatest Salesman in the World" It should be on the shelf of anyone who puts on a salesperson cap, and referred to often. As a result, I have compiled a list of rules that hangs in my office. It is entitled "John's Rules" and reads as follows:

1. I will form good habits and become their slave.
2. I will great this day with love in my heart.
3. I will persist until I succeed.
4. I am nature's greatest miracle, for I am unique.
5. I will live this day as if it were my last.
6. Today I will be master of my emotions.
7. I will cultivate the habit of laughter and I will laugh at the world,
because I can.
8. Today I will multiply my value a hundred fold. I will set goals for the
day, the week, the month, the year and my life. In setting my goals I
will consider my best performance of the past and multiply it a hundred
fold.
9. I will act now!
10. I will pray to my god for guidance.
I ask not for gold or garments or even opportunities equal to my
ability; instead, guide me so that I may acquire ability equal to
my opportunities.

Teach me how to hunt with words and prospect with love so that I
may be a loin among men and an eagle in the market place.

Let me become all that you have planned for me when my seed was
planted and selected by you to sprout in the vineyard of the
world. Help this humble salesperson. Guide me, God.

I first read Og's book in 1988. It has been a blue print, along with Zig Ziglar, Dale Carnegie and Anthony Robbins, of my sales career. I was saddened to learn that Og passed away recently, but his works will live forever, and continue to inspire me and everyone who reads his books. I thank him for giving me his rules to live by.
